What is the Pipe Bursting Method?
When you learn that your underground pipes need to be replaced, you’re probably wrought with worry thinking about the cost, the mess, and the inconvenience that you’re going to have to contend with.
Thanks to advances in modern plumbing, however, there’s a better way to replace those damaged underground pipes, and it’s known as pipe bursting.
Pipe bursting is an innovative way to replace underground sewer and pipe lines. The method involves digging out the damaged pipe into small pieces and replacing those pieces with new ones. First, two small holes are dug into the ground on either side of the pipe that has to be replaced. Next, a metal cone is interested into one of the holes and pulled through the existing pipe.
The process begins by digging two small entry points at each end of the damaged pipe.
A metal cone is inserted into one of the holes and drawn through the old pipe.
As the cone moves through, it breaks apart the damaged pipe and pulls a new pipe behind it.
This method is also called “pulled-in-place” pipe installation because of how the new pipe is installed in one continuous pull.
